Chin Surgery for Men
A well-defined jaw can give the face balance and symmetry. If you feel your chin is too small and underwhelming, or too large and severe, a chin implant or chin reduction can give you a more balanced chin. A chin augmentation with supplemental liposuction can be performed in conjunction with a facelift or neck lift to remove extra tissue and redefine the jaw area.
Candidates for Chin Implants or Chin Reduction
If you feel that you do not have a defined jawline, you may be a candidate for a chin implant or chin reduction. Patients experiencing any jaw or teeth function issues should not consider this surgery. Patients should be in relatively good health, be non-smokers, and have realistic goals for surgery. Patients who have used dermal fillers around the chin (such as Juvederm or Restylane) to create a more pronounced jaw and were pleased with the results are good candidates for chin implants.
During a chin implant, Dr. Nima will make an incision in the natural crease line under the chin or inside the mouth. The tissue is gently stretched and an implant, made of synthetic material that feels similar to natural tissue, is inserted. The implant is custom fit and sized to a patient’s face.
During a chin reduction, Dr. Nima will sculpt the bone by shaving it down or removing a portion of it.
After surgery, Dr. Nima will apply a dressing on the chin that should remain intact for two to three days. Patients will experience some tenderness and discomfort and will be limited to a liquid and soft food diet for several days. Patients will experience bruising and swelling for the first 5-7 days. Most return to work and normal activities within one week.
