When our skin loosens as we age, it begins to droop. The upper part of the arm loses elasticity and many patients experience sagging and excess skin. An arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, can remove sagging skin, define the shape of the upper arm, and reduce fat in the arm. Often, exercise and diet alone are not enough to tone the arm.
Candidates for an Arm Lift
If you have excess skin or fat on the underside of your arm from age, genetics, or weight fluctuations and are unhappy or self-conscious in short sleeves or tank tops, you may be a good candidate for an arm lift. Candidates should be a stable weight, be in relatively good health, and refrain from smoking.
During an arm lift procedure, an incision is made on the inside or back of the arm anywhere from the underarm to the elbow. The arm tissue is tightened and reshaped and fat can be removed with liposuction. The skin is then contoured and the incision is closed.
After arm lift surgery your arms may be wrapped with dressings or bandages to minimize swelling. Activity and movement may be limited for a week to ten days. Heavy lifting should be avoided for at least a month after surgery. Results will be noticeable immediately after swelling subsides.
