Buccal Fat Pad Removal
Buccal fat pad removal is a procedure that can be performed to reduce the volume of fat in the cheeks. This may lead to a more pronounced, chiseled, and contoured appearance of the cheekbones and underlying facial structure. Often, patients will come in looking to get rid of chubby “chipmunk cheeks” which can be treated with a buccal fat pad removal.
Candidates for Buccal Fat Pad Removal
If you are concerned about the appearance of excess cheek fat or otherwise prominent cheeks from genetics or weight gain, you may be a candidate for buccal fat removal.
Buccal fad pad removal is done through a small incision on the inside of both cheeks, through which the cheek fat is removed. The procedure uses local anesthesia, is done in office, and takes under half an hour.
Patients may experience a few days of swelling and bruising. The treated area will be held by a brace and Dr. Nima may recommend a cold compress to alleviate additional swelling and shorten the recovery time. Patients will be limited to a liquid and soft food diet for a few days. Patients should refrain from physical exertion during recovery. Full results are typically visible after about up to three months following treatment.
