Our eyes, over time, start to show our age. The muscles weaken, the skin stretches, and fat and tissue begin to accumulate around the eyes. This causes bags and hoods to form below and above the eyes, making you appear older and tired. An eyelid lift (also known as blepharoplasty) removes fat and excess skin that has accumulated around the eyes, tightening the skin and improving the appearance of the eyelids.
Candidates for an Eyelid Lift
If you have saggy eyelids or bags under your eyes that make you look tired or obstruct your vision, you may be a good candidate for an eyelid lift. An eyelid lift can give you a more youthful appearance and improved self-confidence.
The incision for an upper eyelid lift or lower eyelid lift is made in the creases of the natural eyelid to conceal scarring. Dr. Nima will reposition fat deposits, tighten muscles, and/or remove excess skin. The result is a tighter, more youthful appearance.
Patients will experience light swelling and bruising after an eyelid lift. You may be given lubricating ointment or Dr. Nima may recommend a cold compress to mitigate any discomfort. Many patients return to work or normal activities in 2-4 days. You should use sunglasses while in the sun until your eyelids are fully healed.
