Nose Surgery for Women
Nose surgery, commonly known as rhinoplasty, can transform the nose by increasing or reducing the size, changing the shape or tip, narrowing the bridge or nostrils, or changing the angle between your nose and lip. It can give the face better balance and harmony – giving you a nose that “fits” the rest of your face. In addition to cosmetics, a nose job can also fix breathing problems.
Candidates for Nose Surgery
If you wish your nose were more symmetrical, smaller, or are displeased with bumps or nostril shape or size, you may be a good candidate for nose surgery. If your breathing is impaired by a deviated septum, nose surgery can correct the alignment of your nasal structure.
Nose surgery can be open or closed depending on where the incision is made. During a closed procedure, the incision is hidden inside the nose. In an open procedure, an incision is made on the narrow strip of tissue between the nostrils. After making an incision, Dr. Nima can reshape or resize the nose. For a smaller nose, bone or cartilage may be removed. To correct a deviated septum, the septum is straightened and the airways are improved.
To support and protect the nose, a splint may be placed inside or outside the nose during the healing process. Rhinoplasty patients will experience swelling for several weeks and many don’t see full results until a year after surgery. Over the course of the first year, patients will see gradual changes and improvement to their nose. Recovery takes approximately two weeks during which patients should keep their head elevated and refrain from strenuous activity.
